Expert Advisor Résumé 

 

Dr. Helia Bonilla holds a doctorate in History of Art from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Her interests have focused on the graphics and the Mexican political cartoons of nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. She has published numerous articles in academic journals (such as Annals of the Institute of Aesthetic Studies of the National Autonomous University of Mexico), and in books of a collective nature focusing on the work of José Guadalupe Posada. She has also published a short book on the work of the engraver Manuel Manilla, published by the CONACULTA; a large-format book entitled José Guadalupe Posada, a Hundred Years to Commemorate the Centenary of the Tragic Artist (edited by the Cultural Institute of Aguascalientes, Banamex and Editors Index), and is currently in press with another book entitled Modernity the Library of Mexican Child: Posada, Frias and Maucci, published jointly by the IIE UNAM and FONCA, which is co-authored with Dr. Marie Lecouvey, teacher-researcher at the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense. 

 

Dr. Bonilla has cataloged and served as curator for a variety of exhibitions at the National Museum of Art and the Museum of the City of Mexico. She served as an expert advisor for the 2014 documentary film: Searching for Posada: ART and Revolutions. She has also given numerous conferences and assisted in the delivery of courses and graduates of art history at the IIE, UNAM, the Amparo Museum in Puebla, MUNAL, UABJO (sponsored it by the Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation in the city of Oaxaca), and has taught at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esmeralda", the INBA and the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana.
